Cycling Shoes
What makes them special
Cycling shoes tend to have stiffer soles than normal shoes. They are usually well ventilated and have special cleats to
help them stick to the pedals of a bike. (In some cases they even lock in.) Good bike shoes can have their fit
adjusted on the fly through the use of special straps on them.
Cycling shoe types
Usually you will match the bike shoe to the type of cycling you want to do. For mountain biking you want a shoe
with a good tread for those times you need to get off the bike and hike through the mud. You can also
get special mountain bike shoes where the cleat is hidden under the sole for those times you need to
get off the bike. For road racing it is less important to be able to walk in the shoes. These will tend
to have a more pronounces cleat that is always extended and stiffer soles.
Cycling shoes, places to get them
Here are a couple of places you can get them:
Other options
If you don't want to buy shoes specifically made for cycling, then try and get ones that are light weight but
with very stiff soles. Many of the new trail types fit into that category.
